      Global health equity

At Johnson & Johnson, we are closing the gap between community and care by enabling access to our medicines and technologies, championing nurses and health workers and working together with community-based organizations.
We drive programs at home and around the world with funding from the Johnson & Johnson Foundation and other functional divisions and operating companies across Johnson & Johnson.
Our efforts to close the gap between communities and care
While healthcare is advancing at a rapid pace, significant gaps in access to quality care persist, often for communities that have been historically marginalized. At Johnson & Johnson, we seek to advance equitable access to quality care through championing nurses and community health workers.

      ● We support programs that aim to foster a well-trained and well-supported health workforce, connected to communities and health systems.

      ● Our programs and partnerships – which have supported over 2.28 million health workers – seek to equip health workers with clinical and leadership skills to enhance quality, equitable care.

      ● We engage with governments, community partners and changemakers across sectors to strengthen community-based primary health systems by supporting training and leadership programs, investing in innovation and new models of care, and advocating for systemic change.
We know that medicines and health technologies only deliver value when they reach the communities who need them. We collaborate with charities and non-government organizations who work closely with governments to address some of the world’s greatest health challenges through enabling greater access to medicines and health technologies.

      ● Our efforts to expand access have reached over 1 billion lives and have been recognized as industry-leading for over a decade by the Access to Medicines Index.

      ● For more than 35 years, J&J has helped Operation Smile provide more than 400,000 smiles to children and young adults born with cleft conditions.

      ● Since 2006, we have donated more than 2.4 billion doses of medicine for intestinal worms and committed to expand global product donations to make up to 1 billion doses available through 2030.

      ● By supporting community-led programs to help reach the “missing millions” of people living with undiagnosed TB, Johnson & Johnson has helped engage more than 120 million people at risk of living with undiagnosed TB and screened more than 600,000 at-risk individuals.

      ● We have provided essential surgical tools and training to support surgical care for obstetric fistula, helping 10,000 women receive quality surgeries and training hundreds of operating room staff to improve obstetric fistula care.
      Enable community-centered care
We work to strengthen community-based healthcare, collaborating with those closest to the challenge to develop and deploy support and solutions in a culturally conscious way. We are working together in the communities where we live and work to help improve access to care.

      ● In April 2024, we announced that we are collaborating with more than 100 community-led health organizations supporting historically marginalized communities across the United States including Black Women’s Health Imperative, the National Association of Community Health Centers, and It Takes Philly Inc.’s Black Doctors Consortium.

      ● Through our My Health Can’t Wait initiative, alongside collaborators including the African American Male Wellness Agency, we have reached over 100,000 people and distributed 35,000 packets of educational materials in communities of color.
Our business practices health equity principles, collaborating with healthcare providers and partners with a goal of improving the lives of the patients we serve.

      ● Johnson & Johnson Talent for Good empowers nearly 140,000 employees to give back to communities around the world. Employees can participate in local volunteer activities, mentor young leaders or engage in immersive pro bono assignments worldwide, supporting partner organizations working to improve health for all.
Johnson & Johnson Foundation is a registered charitable organization that reflects the commitment of Johnson & Johnson to use its size, scale and diversity to change lives and communities, advance equitable care, and put better health within reach, aligned with its purpose to profoundly impact health for humanity.
More than half the world’s population lacks access to essential health services.
