      Microbicides for Women in Africa

Women and girls, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa where the HIV epidemic has hit hardest, remain particularly vulnerable to infection. New HIV prevention tools are needed to empower women to help protect their health. Janssen collaborated with the International Partnership for Microbicides (IPM), a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing new HIV prevention technologies for women, to evaluate the prevention of sexual transmission of HIV.

Janssen, collaborating with IPM, is exploring new pathways to evaluate the prevention of HIV infection through microbicidal rings and gels. In rural communities, women often lack regular access to health services. Janssen is looking at innovative applications of HIV medicines to help address treatment and prevention outcomes in these communities by finding ways to reduce the need for frequent dosing.
